Species: A. magniventris

Ankylosaurus was the largest and most powerful of the ankylosaurs. Living in Hell Creek alongside dinosaurs like Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus it lived in lush forests and near rivers where it would eat the local vegetation. However due to predators in the area, it developed a defense system.

Skeletal Build

Ankylosaurus was built like a tank with hardened pieces of bone being used for extra defense. It even had armored eye lids. For extra defense, it had a massive club on the end of it's tail which it would swing at attackers, either breaking bone or killing it entierly. The rest of the body was low to the ground and wide making it hard to flip over.

Evolution

Its evolution was based soley on defense. The boney plating stopped most attacks since their teeth and claws were for slashing, not for breaking bone. This mean that it would not be very threatened which was the whole sucess of the species. in a nutshell, by evolving hard armor and a tail more powerful than those of stegosaurs, it was left alone, only attacked by the Tyrannosaurids with bone crushing jaws that could inflict damage on it.
